With so many different types of leggings out there, from sheer to printed to textured, it can be tough to know the best way to wash and dry them without damaging them. But fear not, our fellow legging enthusiasts! In this post, we're going to share some tips and tricks for caring for your precious leggings, so you can keep them looking and feeling great for as long as possible. So, grab a cup of coffee, put on your comfiest pair of leggings, and let's dive in!

TIP #1 - Don't Over-wash your leggings!

tip 1 to care for your leggings - do not over wash your leggings

Overwashing can make any pair of leggings saggy and loose - the less you wash a garment the longer they will last! Although there's no hard rule on this, the smell test is a good indicator: If you're coming back from hot yoga or running a marathon (or any other extensive exercise), it's probably safe to assume that your leggings are due for a good wash. However, if you've just been chilling around in your house all day, consider holding off if you can. As long as you're not profusely sweating or working out, leggings can go three to four wears before it's time to wash.

TIP #2 - Turn your leggings inside out before washing!

This simple step will help prevent your leggings from pilling, maintain decorative patterns, designs, and keep colours vibrant!

TIP #3 - Hand-wash your leggings using Cold Water!

Leggings are usually made of fabric blends of spandex, nylon, and cotton that are prone to elasticity loss and snagging, especially during a wash cycle. The best to avoid any pulling or damage is to hand-wash when possible - or machine wash on an extra gentle cycle with cold water!.. but remember, handwashing is always the best option.

TIP #4 - Don't use fabric softener!

Most fabric softeners contain silicone that can decrease the efficiency of our leggings absorptive, moisture-wicking properties. If you have a strange smell that just wont go away, we recommend that you soak your leggings in a bath of a quarter cup of vinegar and cool water for 30 minutes before washing. Vinegar's natural odor-absorbing, bacteria-fighting properties will give your leggings an extra boost of clean and help remove odors from perspiration!

TIP # 5 - Lay flat or hang them to dry!

Do NOT put your leggings in the dryer! The high heat of the dryer can warp individual strands of fiber from your leggings and weaken the material which can lead to sagging (often seen around the knees and bum area) and can also lead to permanent tears and holes. No one likes holes in leggings - especially when they pop up in areas we don't want them to!

It's also worth mentioning that sometimes the weight of water can stretch out your leggings when hang-drying, so we highly suggest laying hem flat in order to preserve its elasticity and prevent warping.
